The Jays are in Tampa Bay tonight, but if you’re looking to catch Ernie Clement after the game, forget the club or the closest tiki bar—try the local library.
The beloved infielder recently copped to books as a new passion during an interview in which he was asked what he liked to do off the field. He used to be an all-golf-all-the-time guy, he explained, but has recently been introduced to the joys of the written word. “My girlfriend just got me into reading, so that’s a little different,” he said.
The talk show hosts were unsparing in their reactions: “You’re an adult,” said one. (Clement is 30 years old.) “That’s a red flag,” said another. But he brushed it off, saying, “You know it’s a special girl when she starts putting a book in your hand and you listen to her.” (Um, green flag!)

Clement has been dating Stefanie Brejcha since at least 2024, when the couple became official on Instagram. The internet doesn’t have a lot to offer in terms of who she is or what she does, but Brejcha is a regular in the Jays WAGs boxes—and now we know she’s also a bit of a bookworm.
Do Clement’s comments make him sound like a himbo? Well, sure, but he also seems like a pretty sweet and devoted boyfriend. And he’s hardly an outlier among men as far as his reading habits go. The recent explosion of BookTok on social media has been an ecosystem dominated by women. What will it take to get men to pick up something to read? That’s a question the publishing industry has been struggling with for years.
And now we have our answer: get Ernie Clement to start a book club! Can’t you just see it? All the dudes in the dugout suddenly looking up from the pages of a paperback. Like, yeah, yeah, Vladdy’s coming up to bat—just let him finish this chapter.
