Two questions: What does Toronto want? How can it be a better city?

The Grid’s Edward Keenan would really, really appreciate it if politicians would stop framing the city’s budget debate in terms of pulling Toronto from the jaws of financial collapse. Instead, Keenan thinks Torontonians—and the leaders they’ve elected—should be asking two key questions. First, “What do we want to afford”; and second, “How are we making Toronto a better city?” To this, we might add that since Mayor Rob Ford so adamantly believes the city should be run like a business, perhaps he should adopt a key principle of successful businesses: investing in order to produce growth, rather than simply looking to cut the fat.
