We were waiting to announce the big surprise, but John Baird let the cat out of the bag a little early. In order to survive the much ballyhooed Death of Print Media™, Toronto Life has launched a new marketing strategy: having overheated members of Parliament wave a copy of our latest issue while sitting in the House of Commons, in hopes they’ll be caught by a TV camera. Instead it ended up that the CBC’s Kady O’Malley noticed Baird fanning himself with a magazine—which she mused on the Twitter box might be Toronto Life—before Grant McBride confirmed that it was, in fact, our June issue in the Conservative MP’s hand. For those who remember the foreign affairs minister’s choice words about our fair city, it’s more than a little rich that he was holding the cover with the line “50 reasons to love Toronto now” plastered on the front.
