Bill Blair wants to shrink Toronto’s police force slightly

—The number of officers soon-to-be-former police chief Bill Blair is asking the police board to eliminate from Toronto’s force in 2015. The reduction would allow the Toronto Police Service to avoid increasing its annual operating budget for the first time in at least a decade—a difficult feat, since costs are always rising with inflation. The move comes as the board readies itself for a round of extremely contentious salary negotiations with the police union.
