The National Post lands another elite-level columnist, scooping up Andrew Coyne from Maclean’s

Andrew Coyne is about as close to a celebrity political columnist as there is in this country, and news broke yesterday that he’s leaving Maclean’s to go back to the National Post. First thoroughly public spectacle Christie Blatchford returned to the Post, and now Coyne. The paper sure is stacking its roster with (presumably pricy) heavy-hitters. I was watching an hour long program last night and almost every break in the program there was an advertisement for the National Post and its 3 or 4 celebrity political columnists. What baffled me was the inclusion of Conrad Black in these adds. I do not question that Conrad Black is an ” in your face” brilliant and gifted writer but I am missing something here. How can you advertise a man who is back in prison again in Florida, guilty of fraud charges. Am I missing something here. Does Conrad Black own part of the National Post and that is why he is not only a featured writer but also featured in these adds. Would it be appropriate to have Bernie Madoff as a featured writer in Bloomsberg Daily Reports in New York ? I must emphasize I have nothing against Conrad Black and know he will be back on top upon his release from prison but it seems very weird advertising Conrad Black ( a felon) on tv along side Christie Blatchford and another individual on Saturday December 3rd. What message does this send to society?
