Among Jaffer’s problems: double chin
Troubled ex-MP Rahim Jaffer was arrested for drinking while intoxicated, is an alleged cocaine user, and is accused of using his wife’s position as a cabinet minister to conduct private business. But the Edmonton Sun is the only paper brave enough to say what everyone’s been thinking: Jaffer’s put on a lot of weight.
In a cheeky blog entry, the EdSun refers to Jaffer’s appearance as “bloated,” with a “double chin” and “fleshy cheeks.” Apparently the weight gain is so troubling that it’s made the newsroom recoil in horror (Jaffer was once quite trim). Sun journalists are advising Jaffer to “get off the couch, change out of his pyjamas, and start an exercise regimen.”
The argument that female politicians are judged by their appearance while men are left alone takes a hit, but we’re not sure this is a step in the right direction. Actually, we suspect that bored newsroom staffers were just gathering around CBCNN trying to come up with the best fat jokes.
• Stressed-out Jaffer not as dapper [Edmonton Sun]
Jaffer, when he was first elected as a Reform Party MP was a member of a group of other young Reform MPs (Jason Kenney and Rob Anders) called the “Snack Pack” and they known for eating a lot of junk while they talked policy with each other.
Hard to imagine Kenney or Anders doing cocaine though and given the time they spent around Jaffer one would think they would know if he was doing any.
I do not imagine either of them will bother coming to his defense. Reformers don’t know the meaning of political loyalty which is how and why their party was created.
