Apparently the 2014 mayoral campaign is already underway

Having learned that governing a city can get a little messy, Rob Ford and his team have shifted their attention to getting re-elected. At least, that’s what Marcus Gee argues in this weekend’s Globe and Mail. Yes, the next election is in 2014, but it looks like Ford has decided that subways—and, oddly enough, his failure to build them—are perfect campaign fodder (see also: his new radio show). Indeed, that failure lets the pro-Ford folk paint council as a group of ineffectual spoilsports. And while it may seem like the Fords are jumping the gun—presumably they’d like to get a motion or two passed before 2014—Gee points out that Ford’s opponents underestimated his campaigning ability last time around. And just remember how that turned out. Read the entire story [Globe and Mail] »
let him start running now, and let us start building a candidate to defeat him, his brother and his cronies

It’s a brilliant move – most Ford voters aren’t the types to pay a lot of attention to the details of urban planning, policymaking and politics, but they know what they want! SUBWAYS EVERYWHERE. And they will vote for whomever says they will do the thing they think they want, even if it is never going to happen. Ford can ride the “subway train” to another four years, maybe eight or twelve, easily!
Ford supporters are generally uninformed residents. They only catch the headlines and do not do research to verify sound bits that come from the radio or TV. To them, I say VERIFY and CONFIRM before deciding.
Great… Can’t wait to get him out!!
Folks, dont fall into the vicious cycle with Mr Ford’s campaigning. There’s a really high chance that no subways will be built in Mr Ford’s 1st term and now he has the nerve to use it as a wedge issue and promise them again. If he does get elected then it becomes another vicious cycle where nothing gets built under Mr Ford’s watch.
