Sears cuts prices on 5,000 items—is that all it takes to out-manoeuvre Target?

While local shoppers drool over the prospect of cheap Jason Wu and temporary mini-boutiques, we imagine Target’s impending arrival is rather less thrilling for Canadian retailers. For their part, Sears Canada has slashed the regular prices on more than 5,000 products to attract bargain-seeking consumers ahead of Target’s arrival. While we’re glad to see new CEO Calvin McDonald taking charge of the struggling department store, the deals outlined in Sears’ press release are a bit ho-hum. Dockers pants? Warners bras? Craftsman drill driver kits? Sorry, Calvin, unless you’re planning some hot designer collaborations (and Jay Manuel does not cut it), Target’s going to win.
