The State of New York approved same-sex marriage earlier this summer and Ontario passed a similar law back in 2003, yet we haven’t seen a wedding show that caters primarily to homosexual couples in Toronto. OutTV’s Shaun Proulx has noticed this void and will be emceeing this city’s first second Gay Wedding Show on October 16 at the Delta Chelsea Inn. It’s a cause particularly close to Proulx’s heart, as he experienced discrimination while planning his own wedding—the owner of Proulx’s would-be wedding venue cancelled his booking after learning it was for a same-sex marriage.

Proulx opted instead to get wed at a friend’s house, but felt that gay couples needed a place where vendors would cater to them, so he created the Gay Wedding Show. The event will feature apparel from Tip Top Tailors, Andrew Formals, Perfect Dream Bridal Boutique and KC Hats, as well as bridal and gift Registry from Bed, Bath and Beyond, catering from L-Eat Catering, decor from FOS Decor and services from many other vendors as well. We think this is a pretty great effort, but if we could make one suggestion, it would be that couples not wear matching paisley waistcoats, pantsuits or dresses, because it’s never as cute as you think it is. Check out a complete list of vendors here.

We originally published that the Gay Wedding Show was the first of its kind, but the first wedding show exclusively for gay men and women was hosted by Fab Magazine at Metro Hall in 2007. We regret the error.
