Masked G20 man takes on police; police settle

A Toronto man who was arrested along Yonge Street during the G20 summit for walking while bandana-clad has settled his claim against the police, the CBC reports. Jason Wall’s lawyer says his client spent most of his 28 hours in custody in handcuffs and was strip-searched before being released without charge. If this story sounds familiar, it’s because dozens of others reported similar experiences during the G20. Indeed, Wall filed a complaint with the Office of the Independent Police Review Director, whose final report cited an unnamed police officer who said cops were told anyone “wearing banners [sic], gasmask, goggles” were considered arrestable for “disguise with intent.” And while not everyone is convinced these orders were ever actually given, if they’re true, they’re just about the silliest set of instructions we’ve ever heard. Just imagine what might have happened if the cops had been sicced on Blue Mountain. Read the entire story [CBC] »
