Sale of the Week: the $1-million Moss Park home that shows what a little restoration is worth

Address: 237 Seaton Street
Neighbourhood: Moss Park
Agent: Michael O’Brien, Bosley Real Estate Ltd., Brokerage
The property: This 130-year-old Victorian still has its original wide-plank pine flooring, a glass vestibule at the entrance, restored stained-glass windows and old-style fixtures in the bathrooms.
The history: The sellers, a couple, bought the home in 2004 and decided to maintain its historical features. They brought in a 1920s kitchen—cupboards and all—and renovated the bathrooms to look as though they were designed when the home was originally built.
The fate: Another couple, with plans to start a family, purchased the home. Like the sellers, they have a soft spot for older homes. In fact, they recently sold a restored duplex in the Annex.
The sale: The agent held two open houses over a weekend. The house’s rare antique interior attracted about 150 visitors each day. There were nine offers, and the sellers accepted the highest, without conditions. The home was on the market for a little over a week.
By the numbers:
- $999,990
- $4,454.12 in property taxes (2015)
- 130 years old

The house’s stained glass is restored.

The living room has more stained glass, an antique light fixture and an ornate fireplace.

Next to the living room is a formal dining room, though there was no dining table in there when this photo was taken.

The kitchen reflects all the hottest design trends of 1920: non-coal-fired range, running water, electric lights.

Attached to the kitchen is this small breakfast area.

Most of the house has antique wide-plank pine flooring.

There are three bedrooms on the second floor, and also this den.

Here’s one of the bedrooms.

The second-floor bathroom has a claw-foot tub and antique-style tiles to match.

The master bedroom has more stained glass. It doesn’t have an en suite bathroom.

And here’s the backyard.
