The latest development in the ongoing Strubs Food Corporation saga will be well received by pickle lovers across Ontario: the Brantford Expositor has revealed that Quebec’s Whyte’s Food Corp., the new owner of the insolvent Strubs, has decided to keep the Strubs brand name around. Although the long-term plans for Strubs and its Brantford facility are yet to be determined, things are looking good: in a statement, Philippe Blondin, Whyte’s vice-president of purchasing, explained that the popular Strubs name will allow Whyte’s (which is little-known outside Quebec, despite its long history in the food industry) “to be seen all across Canada.” Even if it’s too late in the growing season for Strubs to buy cucumbers for this year, this is one resilient pickle. [Brantford Expositor]
