We already have Diet Coke slushies and dirty soda. Now, the latest seasonal sip has entered the chat. Buckle up, Toronto: soft-serve margaritas have arrived.

The TikTok-famous treat that has already swept New York’s patio scene—a deliciously boozy marriage of soft-serve ice cream and a tequila-spiked margarita—is now available at El Catrin in the Distillery District.

“When we first heard about soft-serve margaritas gaining popularity south of the border, we knew we had to give them a try,” says Paula Stark, the assistant director of operations at Distillery Restaurants Corporation, which owns El Catrin. “After some experimentation and refinement, we realized we had stumbled onto something special. We thought, What could be better on a hot summer day than enjoying a cool, creamy margarita on our patio? It felt like the perfect combination of fun, refreshment and summer indulgence.”

And so the trendy dessert-slash-drink made it onto the El Catrin summer menu—offered in mango, strawberry or a twist of the two—for $17 each. Stark says the initial response has been positive. “There’s such a beautiful balance to the flavours: you can taste all the elements of the margarita without it ever becoming overly sweet. One enthusiastic guest told us, ‘I can’t believe it’s just as good eating it frozen as it is drinking it once it’s melted.’"

The soft-serve margarita is part of El Catrin’s new line of Mexican-inspired summer specials—which, naturally, includes no shortage of margaritas, like classic, frozen and Mayan (El Jimador Reposado, dry curaçao, tamarind, lime and a Tajín rim). But the soft-serve version may hang around past the summer. As long as people keep ordering it, Stark says, the restaurant will keep it on the menu.
