In a collaboration nobody saw coming, chef Matty Matheson has partnered with Canadian women’s fashion brand Aritzia. To celebrate the grand opening of the brand’s newly expanded boutique in the Eaton Centre, Prime Seafood Palace—Matheson’s swanky temple to surf and turf on Queen West—is adding serious cachet to the menu at the in-store A-OK Café.

Vancouver-based Aritzia, which has dozens of stores across the US and Canada, has become synonymous with pillowy puffer jackets, pastel-hued Sweatfleece and giddy hordes of gals seeking sleek wardrobe basics. Part of its expansive new store—billed as Toronto’s largest—the A-OK Café is a polished space where tired shoppers can revive themselves over micro-ground teas, matcha-infused drinks and espresso-based beverages.

And it’s now the only place in the city to find the Chocolate Cake Sundae, a lofty combo of cake crumble, 54 per cent ganache, soft serve and glossy chocolate sauce created by Prime Seafood Palace executive chef Coulson Armstrong and Aritzia VP of food and beverage Chris Stewart.

Based on the devilish seven-layer dessert gracing PSP’s tables once the strip loins and prime ribs have been cleared away, the sundae is a $12 luxury that, according to Armstrong, brings the iconic flavour of PSP’s chocolate cake. “Thanks to the soft serve, it’s an appropriate treat no matter the time of day,” he adds.

Though the lavish sundae will reportedly be available only until May 3, the café has also partnered with local favourite Le Beau Lab, whose roster of chubby croissants, cookies and tea cakes can currently be found sprucing up the bakery cases at all A-OK Café locations in the GTA.

And for Sweatfleece fans, limited-edition styles emblazoned with a bull and ladybug (a mash-up blending the respective logos of Prime Seafood Palace and Aritzia) will be given away to the first 100 people who buy the sundae on April 27—inviting trendsetters to continue celebrating the collaboration long after it’s over. Missed out on the freebies? The PSP x Aritzia sweatshirts are available for purchase through Aritzia’s app today and online tomorrow.
