Hilary Swank, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Bob Rae (of course!) among Bollywood elite at 2011 International Indian Film Academy Awards

Bollywood films are notorious for being unabashedly chaotic, with convoluted storylines, over-the-top costumes and more camp than an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race. And although the green carpet outside the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards was definitely chaotic—with thousands of shrieking fans and a rabid media clamouring for access to the stars—an air of glamour supplanted the usual kitsch. Bollywood celebs—including Shahrukh Khan, Bipasha Basu, Sunny Deol and Shilpa Shetty— mingled with Hollywood actors like Academy Award winners Hilary Swank and Cuba Gooding Jr., as well as Canadian politicians Bob Rae and Dalton McGuinty.  The outfits were similarly classy (er, for the most part—a few people looked like they got lost on their way to a costume party), with smart tuxedos, dazzling gowns and stunning jewellery.  Our look at the highlights in a gallery after the jump.
