On Monday, the city’s glitterati descended on the Ritz-Carlton hotel to rub shoulders and raise money for War Child Canada, a charity supporting children and families affected by war in Afghanistan, South Sudan and more. The evening, hosted by HGTV personality Sangita Patel, featured a live auction with prizes including a meetup with Bryan Adams in South America, raising a total of $1.1 million for the cause.
But one thing set the evening apart from the rest of the swanky galas on the charity circuit: an acoustic set by Our Lady Peace. Frontman Raine Maida received the Founder’s Award at the ceremony for his work with the charity over the past two decades and treated guests to stripped-down renditions of CanCon classics like “Clumsy” and “Innocent.” “Receiving the Founders Award is an honour—and I’ll never stop busking for change as long as there’s a need,” Maida said in his acceptance speech.
