Rob Ford’s weight-loss challenge comes to a fittingly cringe-worthy end

Rob and Doug Ford’s public weight loss spectacle is officially over, ending five months of public mockery and depressing or cancelled weigh-ins. Since “Cut the Waist” started on Jan. 16, the mayor has lost 17 pounds, which leaves him 33 away from his 50-pound target. Doug fared much better, taking off 35 pounds after breaking an absurd chocolate milk addiction (apparently, he was chugging two or three litres a day). We’re happy for both Ford brothers for shedding some weight, though we’re wondering about the cost to the mayor’s dignity. Case in point: after being weighed for the last time, Rob twisted his ankle as he stepped off the scale. Seriously. [Toronto Star]
