QUOTED: Doug Ford reveals that he was completely blindsided by Rob Ford’s confession

“I didn’t see it coming. He didn’t talk to me, the lawyer, his staff or anybody...It was the worst day I ever had. When my father died, I knew it was coming because he had cancer and there was time. But this came out of nowhere.”

—Councillor Doug Ford, who, up until yesterday, seemed to be privy to all of Rob Ford’s secrets. Speaking to the Toronto Sun’s Joe Warmington, Doug described his conversation with his brother after the shock apology—a conversation in which Doug told the mayor, “I don’t know what to believe anymore with you.” Rob’s explanation for the sudden decision to come clean? “He said he just got up and he felt sort of like he was born again,” reports Doug. “He said ‘I’m not a religious person but it just came clear to me’ it was time.’’ (Where was this epiphany last May?) Doug, though “exhausted,” seems to be moving on from the slight, but others aren’t so forgiving: the mayor’s longtime policy advisor Brooks Barnett quit this morning. [Toronto Sun]
