Athletes’ Instagram shots show what it’s actually like at the Rio Olympics for Team Canada

Team Canada has been doing a lot of Instagramming from Rio, and looking at the shots it’s hard to discern any trace of the “state of public calamity” that the city declared just a few weeks prior to the opening ceremonies. Here, some pictures of Canadian athletes enjoying their gruelling championship holiday to the max.

Swimmer Emily Overholt demonstrates the proper use of a hammock:

Apparently the Olympic Village has a salon. Penny Oleksiak took advantage:

Tennis player Vasek Pospisil uses giant, boot-shaped sleeping bags (actually, some kind of fancy limb-squeezing athlete recovery system) to make his legs feel better after a match:

Here, from volleyball player Steven Marshall, is what it looks like when you’re getting ready to walk out into the Olympic opening ceremonies:

So this is what rowers did after their events were cancelled on Sunday:

The canoe course looks different up close:

And the Olympic Village looks different with nobody around:

With rowing events postponed, Chrstine Roper evidently had time for a lonely walk on Ipanema Beach:

It’s pretty windy in Rio right now, as Danielle Boyd and Erin Rafuse have discovered:

Tennis star Genie Bouchard thinks this is the “cutest bed ever.” It’s also the most oppressively sporty bed ever:

The men’s volleyball team loves to post pictures of themselves making intense faces. Here’s Gavin Schmitt:
