Michael J. Fox gets nostalgic about Back to the Future

“Are you saying you built a time machine...out of a DeLorean?” For children of the 1980s, those words spark a glimmer of joy in their Spielberg trilogy–loving hearts. And while we shelved our flux-capacitor fantasies decades ago, we were thrilled to know that the man who uttered that line–our beloved Michael J. Fox–has reunited with fellow Back to the Future star Lea Thompson to reminisce about every 30-year-old’s favourite childhood movie.

Fox got together with Thompson, better known as Marty McFly’s smokin’-hot mom, to do a little time travelling of their own for a special reunion issue of Entertainment Weekly. The magazine shot a charmingly sincere video of the two stars waxing poetic about life with Doctor Emmett Brown and their fictional quest to harness 1.21 gigawatts of electric power from a bolt of lightning (it once seemed so plausible!). Both actors seem to genuinely adore one another, and Thompson, still a turbo babe well into her 40s, even chokes up as Fox compliments her performance in the bedroom scene, when Marty first meets the younger version of his mom (“I’ve never seen purple underwear before!”).

The magazine also reunited the casts of a host of other classic movies and TV shows for the issue, including stars from Pretty in Pink, The Muppet Show, Married...With Children and The Lord of the Rings. It’s a bonanza of pop entertainment nostalgia, and Fox is the undeniable crown jewel.
