Like Aritzia? Its cooler sister, Wilfred, is opening up its first Canadian boutique in Toronto this August
Aritzia is one of those brands most women can enjoy, because the clothes are fairly unassuming, trendy and mid- to high-end. The brand has announced that on Aug. 25, Aritzia’s luxury fabric–heavy Wilfred label will be opening its first Canadian boutique in a 1,600-square-foot space in the Eaton Centre, and it will carry their Wilfred, Wilfred Free and Le Fou by Wilfred labels. Every time we pass an Aritzia in Toronto, it’s packed to the walls with TNA-clad 20-somethings and prep school girls, so we can only imagine what kind of support this new endeavour will receive. Come opening day, we think we’ll see a crowd forming, not unlike protesters picketing outside their workplace. But don’t worry, it is in a mall, so there will be more than one of everything. “Aritzia is one of those brands most women can enjoy…” except those who can’t squish into a medium or below (which, believe it or not, is likely more than half of the women out there). I hope Wilfred will rethink its sizing, and take on a more inclusive approach which is a way cooler thing to do.
Whitney: You mean vanity sizing, which is what nearly every mass-production label is doing. No, it’s not cool to lie to yourself about your actual size; normal-sized people (not over-weight people), are finding it increasingly difficult to find affordable clothing that fits properly. Are fit people supposed to succumb to gluttony and apathy in order to fit into clothing these days?
Since my size is not that of the norm, but rather that of a “small” asian, I find it difficult to find tops that dont’t look too big on me. Artizia offers me an easy and enjoyable shopping experience: great styles, fun staff, and clothes that FITS! I am a HUGE fan of Artizia, especially of the styles offered by their Wilfred brand. I am looking forward to Wilfred’s opening in the city.
I just bought two Wilfred dresses at Aritzia, and am keeping my eye on a Wilfred coat for this winter. I hope they’ll bring a Wilfred store to Vancouver too.
No snark intended to Whitney, but I really doubt Wilfred’s sizing is going to change. Wilfred’s sizes do fit very small compared to other brands but I doubt that was unintentional.
Bad bad bad experience at this store. Beware of the return policy. I totally got duped by the agressive sales people. They really pressure you into buying something then they dont tell you its final sale. Girls are really snobby. I have never experienced such annoying service. I really regret my purchase.
