Charlotte Dellal
In what may go down as the fashion party of 2010, The Bay hosted a tribute to British designers and the first anniversary of its swank couture boutique, The Room. Celebrating our Commonwealth heritage, the God Save the Queen party last night was the place to be. Out went racks of designer duds from the space and in went bottles of bubbly. Such fashion bold-faces as Giles Deacon, Canadians Erdem Moralioglu and Mark Fast, Nicholas Kirkwood, Charlotte Olympia, Jonathan Sanders and Marios Schwab all had designs showcased at the swishy event, and the society queens came in droves. Even the servers were A-list—we spotted musician Gentleman Reg carrying trays of cocktails.
Perhaps due to concerns about spillage on the fancy frocks, red wine wasn’t on the menu, but the evening overflowed with champagne, white wine and gin drinks. We spotted Toronto designer Jeremy Laing flanked by dowagers cooing over his latest collection in New York, a witchy-looking Stacey Kimel, Bay CEO Bonnie Brooks, Jian Ghomeshi, Dan Levy (in a pair of fierce studded boots ) and many a fur stole. We almost missed Suzanne Rogers, who ditched her signature bouffant for a sleek, chic ponytail . The party wound down around 10, but this is fashion week, darlings, so of course an unofficial after-party plan went into effect–this time at new Toronto hot spot Goodnight. See what people wore in our slide show below >>

Lowered expectations! Calling this the “fashion party of the year” is the reason why the Toronto fashion is completely irrelevant to anyone who actually knows fashion. Who are the A-listers you’re referring to? MTV guy? Really? Tu Ly? I’m quivering.
I have to agree with Allen Wang – A-listers?! These people don’t even make the B-list.
Well, from my point of view – and I did New York and London Fashion Week – it was probably the fashion party of the century.
It was incredible to have the talent which is redefining fashion – namely Giles Deacon, Erdem Moralioglu, Nicholas Kirkwood, Marios Schwab, Jonathan Saunders, Mary Katrantzou, Mark Fast and Charlotte Olympia Dellal – in one room at once. And to see The Room revitalized. This is great for Canada.
Agree that it was the best fashion event in Toronto in a really long time and so much more innovative than anything Holt’s ever has put together.
Writer clearly doesn’t belong to fashion media. His outsider perspective doesn’t do party justice, as futher proven by this misspelling of Jonathan SaUnders and referring to Charlotte Dellal by her label’s name.
Witchy-looking… not a chance! Divine
Its nice that Toronto Life supports local talent, at the same time, Jian Ghomeshi and Suzanne Rogers are not A-list in anyone’s book outside the so-called self-created Toronto social circles they reside in. Let’s stop playing pretend here.
“Couture Halloween perhaps”?? Stacey Kimel is laughable on all levels – I mean just look at the photo?? Try D-list Toronto Life – all this woman does is go from event to event dressed in ridiculous outfits hoping everyone will watch her…pathetic.
This is very enlightening. I feel for the women that believe in the Emperors clothes and need to follow fashion to it’s extreme. However on a positive note I think Stacey was a brave woman to wear a dress that weighs more than she does…hope she didn’t hurt her back.
Tremendous things here. I’m very glad to see your post. Thanks so much and I’m looking ahead to touch you. Will you kindly drop me a e-mail?
