Label alert: Intermix to open flagship Toronto location this fall
Label hounds will have fresh hunting grounds come fall 2011. American luxury retailer Intermix has announced it’s opening its first Canadian location with a 2,500-square-foot store on Bloor Street. According to a story on Women’s Wear Daily’s Web site, Intermix CEO Khajak Keledjian feels Canadian locations are key to breaking into international markets: “Why shouldn’t we be in every international city in Canada? After that, it will be easier to go to Western Europe.”
While there’s no word yet on what brands will be available at the Toronto location, Intermix is typically associated with fashion-forward womenswear, carrying a mix of established and emerging designers, like Stella McCartney, Catherine Malandrino, Diane von Furstenberg, McQ by Alexander McQueen and Australian label Sass and Bide. Keledjian told WWD that he’s working on collaborating with designers on exclusives for Intermix, and folding in some other new favourites: “We collaborated with Sergio Rossi and Cushnie et Ochs. I love Helmut Lang and Rag and Bone, and I like the new Rachel Zoe collection. It’s highly styled, good quality and a great value.”
With many of these labels hard to find in Canada, we’re expecting some serious opening day lineups.
So is it taking over the old Lululemon location or 150 a part of 150 Bloor West? Any news on that yet?
WOOT!! I can’t wait, we are starved for these large high end retailers in Toronto to compete with Holts and offer a broader selection. It’s too bad The Bay’s ‘The Room’ didn’t open on Bloor as a stand alone location; it’s a pain having to go through the rest of The Bay to get to. When I go shopping I want to go to one location (Bloor St) and be able to walk to all the different stores. You know what they say, out of sight out of mind and that’s exactly what happens with ‘The Room’.
Yay! Let’s just hope they don’t jack up the price of everything by 25/30% and blame it on “import” tax.
