Suitsupply has concept shops all over the world, but this is the Dutch menswear brand’s Canadian debut. The new shop is housed in a posh Yorkville mansion, but vice president Nish de Gruiter is quick to stress that it’s “not your Dad’s suit store.” He’s right: between the mood lighting and the bikini-clad models on the wall, the place has a cool-guy vibe that’s sure to resonate with Yorkvillers and King West ad execs alike.

The ambiance may be laid-back, but the company takes menswear seriously: suits are made from over 600 Italian fabrics, alterations are done on-site, and the entire staff was trained at a special “Suit School” in New York. Plus, the stock is varied enough to make the place a true one-stop-shop. The focus is on the brand’s well-cut suits and outerwear, but the store also sells casual basics, leather shoes, tote bags and fun accessories, like printed pocket squares and round-framed sunglasses. (Customers can opt to “Suit Up” for a fully tailored look.) Best of all, the goods are relatively affordable. Shirts range from $89-$159, sports jackets are $399, and suede brogues clock in at $390. The made-to-measure suiting service starts at $799 and the store even offers a complete tuxedo package for $849. Our favourite items: a lightweight pure linen blazer that won’t wrinkle during travel ($429), and a compact but stylish raincoat that folds away into a little pouch ($179).
