Sale rack scavenger: Holt Renfrew edition
The holidays are officially over, but sale season is still in full swing. We stopped by Holt Renfrew to see what the city swank emporium has to offer on the sort of cheap (cheap, of course, being a relative term at Holts). Take a look at what we found in our slide show »
Navajo-inspired jacket by Polo Ralph Lauren
Ralph was borrowing inspiration from the lumberjack back when hipsters were still smitten with trucker caps. This one has rad dad written all over it.
Original price: $1,095
Sale price: $549
Wool poncho by Sacai
The poncho is one of 2011’s hottest items, though it can be hard to pull off without appearing a little on the dowdy side. This one (with a trendy toggle clasp and leather trim) won’t get you mistaken for your great-aunt Myrtle.
Original price: $895
Sale price: $449
Animal-print purse by 3.1 Phillip Lim
For some reason, we think this is the bag Minnie Mouse would carry if she were a clothes horse instead of a rodent.
Original price: $775
Sale price: $309
Slim-fit trousers by Rag and Bone
The sleek elegance of a formal pant meets the comfort of a sweat. Plus, Brad Pitt wears Rag and Bone, so what other reason do you need?
Original price: $295
Sale price: $149
Party dress by Alice and Olivia
A&O does festive frocks like Levi’s does denim. This one—with a tie-dye-inspired print and flirty bubble hemline—looks like something off the set of Gossip Girl (that’s a good thing).
Original price: $535
Sale price: $269
Party dress by Diane von Furstenberg
What fashion-loving female hasn’t dreamt of owning her very own DVF?
Original price: $445
Sale price: $219
ever wonder why it is still in the store this late??? looks horrible…no sale price would move this junk
What a shame to publish these kind of photos… exposure seems all wrong.
good grief – what a horrible assortment. After the first few I really started to think you were joking…
Ewwww. Period.
this is a joke, right?
This is ridiculous. This type of article goes to show its readers that Toronto Life is totally out of touch with the economic hardship that seems to plague a large populations of Torontonians. Shame on you.
Tacky and overpriced!
This is really ugly stuff….that has to do with the buyers at Holts who suck at what they do and every season it’s just boring overpriced ugly pieces of collections. There is no cohesiveness. Toronto in general sucks for shopping. We get so shortchanged in this city. Just go to Europe or even in the States and the shopping is fantastic and reasonably priced. Holts tries too hard and their sales staff think they own the place but in reality this so called “luxury” store is such a joke.
Seriously? I am embarrassed for you!! The clothes chosen are ugly, tacky and overpriced! I wouldn’t take them if you paid me for them. Futhermore, the quality of the picture is purely amateur. I am surprised that a well respected store such as Holts would allow you to pulish this. I guess it goes to show how truely little Toronto Life and Holts care about the consumer.
Regular-priced items don’t move that fast at Holts – good on them to slash prices to get these Picasso motifs out of sight
