Pop-Up Pick: snag $50 samples from homegrown designers Jeremy Laing and Calla

Jeremy Laing, one of the city’s best homegrown design talents, is hosting a sample sale this weekend along with three other chic labels. The NYFW designer, a fixture at Toronto’s pre–Fashion Week event The Shows, typically peddles his androgynous, fashion-forward collections at boutiques like Jonathan and Olivia, where a simple tunic retails for almost $500. But at this two-day event, shoppers can bag a range of product at a steal: past season pieces will start at just $50 and his most recent spring collection will be up to 60 per cent off—meaning fans of the designer’s ultra-mod style won’t have to bankrupt themselves for a translucent jacket or oversized window pane t-shirt.

Also up for grabs at the sale will be Paris-based designer Calla Haynes’s eponymous line (her pastel-hued collections and flirty skirts are a nice contrast to Laing’s minimalist look) and Toronto model-turned-editor-turned-designer Rita Liefhebber’s luxe basics. Arielle de Pinto will round out the event with her exquisitely unique crocheted jewellery. A note to shoppers: leave your debit cards at home—it’s cash and credit only.
