I wonder if Toronto Life understand what “essential” means. Exactly zero of these items are must-haves for any functioning kitchen. Sure, many of them are beautiful and beautifully designed, but I’d say that 100% of kitchens can manage without them – making them the opposite of essential.
I disagree Debbie. Some of these are superfluous, but in my kitchen, that Bialetti espresso maker in this slideshow has a permanent place on my stove. I think it’s the only thing I’d save if my house were on fire.
I totally agree with Debbie. Has Toronto Life changed their readership demographics while I was away???? They may have 3-4 items that are essential but how many of their readers are heading out to buy a stool for $800. It is beautiful but not a must have. Not too many cookware stores were approached but rather interior design stores. I think they need to try again.
If Toronto Life wants to appeal to the rich, then these items are essential. It would be much more enjoyable to have items that are beautiful and affordable for the average Torontonian!
I have to agree that this is not the list I was expecting when I clicked on ‘essentials.” Where did the where to get good stuff cheap mentality go? I know this is the last time I will come check out Toronto Life after a few disappointments.
