Toronto Fashion Week: 44 looks you can buy now from Target’s holiday-themed runway show

Toronto Fashion Week: Target spring 2014

Toronto Fashion Week runs from October 21-26, in a large—and stylishly appointed—tent at David Pecaut Square. We’re posting full galleries from the buzziest runways. Here’s what trendsetters will be wearing in spring 2014.

DESIGNER

Predictably, Target’s first-ever appearance at Toronto Fashion Week focused on consumer clothing, not high design. Rather than present a spring 2014 collection, the American retail giant staged a full-fledged winter wonderland to showcase the wares currently on shelves.

THE SCENE

That wonderland came complete with oversize moose prints on the walls; king-sized thrones for the front row (which included the likes of Kreesha Turner, Dan Levy and Aliya-Jasmine Sovani); throw pillows and blankets (meant for guests to take home); and a friendly man pushing a shopping cart filled with more presents. Model Erin Wasson—and the Target bulldog—closed the show amidst a shower of manufactured snowflakes. The most cloying detail of all: the DJ’s decision to finish with Justin Bieber’s rendition of “I Don’t Want A Lot For Christmas.”

THE COLLECTION

No buzzy designer collabs here—the trend-focused pieces for guys, girls and kids were by Target standbys like Mossimo, Merona, Sam & Libby and Beaver Canoe for Target. The holiday theme meant that sparkles abounded for women (including both rhinestones and metallics), while the men looked cozy in chunky knit sweaters and flannel plaids. But we’re not here to overthink it—Target is a major retailer. The looks on the runway were only a shade of what they have in stores.

BEST PIECES

We liked the digital print on a black-and-white dress and a sweatshirt, which both look like something a high-end brand might produce. The Beaver Canoe for Target pieces contributed a nice dose of homey Canadiana .
