Toronto fashion week gets a new venue (for the second time in a month)
Just two weeks ago, the Fashion Design Council of Canada announced that a “trendy” warehouse would serve as the permanent home for Toronto fashion week runway shows. But this afternoon, we received a press release explaining a last-minute venue change:
Over the last decade, LG Fashion Week has experienced enormous expansion and requires a much larger canvas to articulate its vision. Our previously announced location, 30 Ordnance, was a romantic idea; however, further in-depth inspections revealed significant logistical challenges.
The new venue will be the Allstream Centre at Exhibition Place, which the FDCC says will allow for a larger media lounge, more seating, a large runway and a retail space stocked with Canadian designs.
It’s a late change; fashion week begins on March 28, and the press release announcing the change appears to have been hastily put together, with editing marks left in the margins—see below.
Stay tuned for more fashion week coverage.

Clearly, the black-line version was sent by accident. Toronto Life shouldn’t have published it. Petty move on their part.
Way to represent the Toronto fashion industry… these people need to get their act together!
Printing this version makes Toronto Life look bad, not the FDCC – Not professional, guys. – anyone can attach the wrong attachment in error.
Petty and mean. For what?
LG Fashion week is trying to raise the profile of Canadian Fashion – why not get on board and help them?
Where has your Olympic spirit gone?
It was probably someone quite low on the ladder who had the responsibility of sending out that release (but someone much higher who should of accepted the changes). The bottom rung person will get the flack though, I hope they still have a job. It was an easy mistake to make, “accept all changes” is just one click. Pretty sure they’ll never do it again.
I agree with Manuel, you didn’t have to post this.
I have to agree with the Searle/Tyrell post of a few moments ago. For quite a while now, Toronto Life has had this ridiculous, ambulance-chasing vendetta against the FDCC. Did someone on your team not receive media credentials or some swag? Petty and mean, indeed. Trying to make someone else look bad only makes Toronto Life look worse.
Perhaps there should be an “Own the Runway” campaign to support the FDCC. Toronto alone is not without the means to do so, and encouraging designers across the country would speak volumes to the overall commitment.
