Finally, Topshop confirms plans for first Toronto store
Over at Now magazine, Andrew Sardone has solved the mystery of Topshop’s first Toronto location. It’s not going to be at The Bay, as we previously heard, but on Ossington Avenue inside the boutique Jonathan and Olivia. Sardone reports, “O’Brien is blowing out J&O’s back wall to create an 800-square-foot Topshop boutique that will open to shoppers on Saturday, June 19 at 9 a.m.” Jonathan and Olivia is known for carrying such pricey but youthful designer labels as Alexander Wang and Rag and Bone, so it’ll be interesting to see how this cheapo, fast-fashion brand fits into the store.
Top Shop is notttttttt pricey! it’s a great addition to Toronto fashion boutiques – very excited.
‘BOUT TIME!!!
This sounds like magnificent news for fashion lovers like myself. I’ve seen some items from Topshop on someone’s lookbook and I thought they were absolutely gorgeous! I can’t wait!! :)
I cannot understand the decision to launch Topshop beside J&O. I can’t really imagine the majority of J&O’s clientele being interested in fast fashion as offered by the like of Topshop. The “philosophy” behind the products offered by Topshop seems anathema to the “philosophy” behind the brands carried by J&O (APC, Zero Maria Cornejo, etc). Topshop has its merits and I will no doubt shop there regularly if it comes to Toronto, but I feel that the store would belong more in (or around) the Eaton Centre or in the Bloor West area.
On the upside, those who like mixing high and low can now get more out of their trip to Ossington. There are several excellent clothing stores there that my benefit from Topshop invasion. However I do hope that the new population of shoppers attracted to the area by Topshop will not marr the atmosphere and identity of the current establishments…
I don’t believe it! It seems like a real mismatch to me. There must be some connection between the owners. Becuase there is now way J&O could provide a better location then the Bay!
Oh dear, the ‘mallification’ of Ossington begins. Don’t get me wrong, I love TopShop, but it’s a ‘highstreet’ store. Just as Queen West was once boutiques and now it’s the outdoor eaton centre, Ossington will soon be invaded by chain stores.
Top Shop North America isn’t cheap-cheap. You aren’t going to find a lot of $20 tops there and expect things to be more expensive than in the UK as it’s already that way in the US. A £40 top costs $80 US when after the exchange rate, it’s more like $60-$65.
Cynthia is correct. Those of you looking for H&M prices at TopShop will be disappointed, I was just in NYC a couple of weeks ago and visited the TopShop in Manahattan. However … when TopShop has a sale the prices are amazing … last August I almost picked up a cute pair of leather sandals for $20 (if only they had my size)!
800 square feet is small though eh ?
As the mother of two teenage British girls, having emigrated here 5 years ago, I say GIVE US A REAL TOP SHOP ON BLOOR STREET NOW! I’m sick of having to schlep to New York for it!
where is the exact major intersection?
