Queen West men’s store Ruins is closing, but another clothing shop is moving in
Ruins, the kinda-laidback, kinda-edgy lifestyle boutique on Queen West at Shaw, is closing its doors this Sunday after nearly two years (and offering 50 to 70 per cent discounts on all merchandise until then). Co-owner Josh Reichmann explained the decision to shut down in a post on the store’s Facebook page:
The truth is, it is an almost impossible business model and specifically a hyper specified asthetic which demands a larger demographic than which either Toronto has or which found the store at all or if found, experienced it as perfectly satisfying.
Taking over the space in mid-September is Chosen Vintage, which is currently tucked away upstairs in the same building. The street-level digs should help Chosen stay competitive in the crowded West Queen West-Ossington vintage clothing scene. [h/t BlogTO]

Perhaps it’s just because the selection of clothes was, well, kinda crap.
My male friends used to laugh at the garbage they stuck on clothes hangers and asked $600 for.
Good riddance.
The vintage store that’s moving in is such a better fit.
I love how these stores think they can charge an arm and a leg for clothes and think they can remain in business. I shop at men’s boutique clothing stores, but this one was simply waaayyyyy over-priced. It’s a simple business concept folks – no customers means no business.

The displays were never really enticing either. No surprise here.
it seemed like the place was closed more than open. no loss. just like others have commented, the selection was weak and the prices were amusing. it’s places like this (attitude-wise) that keep me loyal to the likes of ebay. who would ever pay the inflated prices for those items? how did hipsters afford their ironic cardigans and smoking jackets from here?
