Michelle Obama doesn’t wear pantyhose, so neither should anyone else
The latest in First World problems: the decline of pantyhose because Michelle Obama doesn’t wear them. The First Lady is not the only woman to shun nylons; a trend piece in The Charlotte Observer (obviously they’ve never heard of mantyhose in South Carolina) points to women working in banks who are avoiding them because the risk of runs defeats the intention of making legs look silkier. On the other hand, an “executive stylist” (a very niche job title, by the way) says wearing hose is still a must for women in powerful positions, like Hillary Clinton. “You’re never going to see them without hose on. It’s like a man in a three-piece suit with lace-up shoes and no socks.” Hear that, ladies? Aspiring first ladies should go bare-legged, while future secretaries of state should stock up on nylons.

I wore pantyhose twice this year, both times they got runs. At $9 for a decent pair of nude sheer hose, I don’t know how women who wear them regularly can afford it. I’m going back to black tights until the warmer weahter comes and I can go bare.
sign me up for some Mantyhose
I hate to burst your bubble, but Michelle Obama has, indeed, started wearing pantyhose since she became the First Lady.
I wear Pantyhose everyday. The fabrics today make them easier to put on and more comfortable to wear then in the 70’s & 80’s. On avg I get 6 wears or more out of tha newly opened package. I wear them in the summer with short & Snorks, and I wear them with pants and skirts other days. I like the way they make my legs look and feel, and I have received nice compliments from men, and some ladies when I have a skrit or shorts on. To prove my point I went to the local mall with my husband (who loves to see me and other lady in hose) and walked through with skirt and bare legs, and not one person made a remark or gave me a second look. The next day we went back to the same mall, and this time I had Tan color silky hose on, and a skirt, (I wear shorts with hose as well) and my husband walked a few steps back, and men kept doing double takes my husband told me. When we went to the food court, 2 different guys came up and asked for my name and phone #.
Think of hose as make-up for the legs. If you take a 10 – 30 minutes in the morning to makeup your face and do your hair, and pick an outfit, then why not take an extra 5 minutes to makeup your legs.
More and More younger women are wear hose again, and they are showing up on the fashion runways too.
They are making a come back. All be it slow, I do see more women wearing them latly.
I wear tights, does that count?
But, I’m also a guy so maybe not.
I NEVER WEAR PANYHOSE BECOUSE WEAR I LIVE ITS ALWAYS HOTTTTTTTTTTT WEAR I WORKED I DIDNT NEED TO WEAR PANYHOSE AT ALL BUT I HAVE TO DRESSED NICE AND SHAVED MY LEGS WHEN IT GETS HAIRY.AND WEAR LEGGINGS WHEN IT GETS COLD OR SOCKS.
THE FRIST LADY DID WEAR PANYHOSE BUT SHE STOP BECOUSE SHE KEEP RIPPING THEM AND THEY DIDNT HAVE HER SIZED TO MURCH SO SHE WEAR LEGGINGS OR SOCKS TO KEEP WARM IN THE WINTER.
If, like me, Michelle Obama had legs that look like plucked chickens, she would wear them!
I love the look of panty hose, and if you find good ones, they definitely last. I love Wilfred from Aritzia and Hue, I think they are called, which I stocked up on at an Anthropologie sale lately.
I am very pale and not interested in tanning. Hose are the way to go!
People need to stop wearing shorts and nylons!!! I’m not sure who decided this was a good idea, but it’s not! Wearing nylons does not make it ok to wear super short cut off shorts as a “dressed up” look. It’s one thing to see teens wearing them around the mall, but it’s definitely not an office look…hint, hint!
I would take exception to Gabrielle’s advice about wearing hose with shorts. For the ladies, the shorts need not be short shorts, as longer, more dressy shorts would look just fine with pantyhose, too. And of course, for guys who wear the ‘mantyhose’, shorts are the only realistic option. I don’t see kilts orn man-skirts coming into style anytime soon.
