Introducing: Porsche Design, a Bloor Street store full of extravagances

The Porsche Design shop on Bloor Street feels like some sort of Las Vegas show room. Eye candy lines every corner, and none of it’s decorative—everything has a price tag. Who’s buying all these extravagant items? Well, Porsche Design is known as a “toy store for men,” and it’s impossible to disagree. There are gorgeous pipes for the daily smoker, beautiful pens for the suited type who needs a gift for his boss, lightweight knives for the at-home chef, various pieces of luggage for the red-eye commuter, and even a $275,000 limited edition rose gold Le Mans watch for, um, the wealthiest of wealthy gentleman (this particular item already sold, believe it or not).

Interestingly, Porsche-branded clothing isn’t for sale here—it’s part of the brand’s Driver Selection tier, which is only sold out of dealerships. The company has three tiers, including Porsche Design Studio, which deals with commissioned projects throughout the world, like a recent collaboration with Veuve Clicquot to design a special fridge, and Porsche Design, which makes everything sold in-store. The store is popular among moneyed shoppers, including Sylvester Stallone, who has purchased every colour combination of the Bounce shoes ever sold, and Dubai sheikhs, who have a tendency to buy out the entire stock of a particular product (one sheikh recently purchased all 50 hookahs available at a Dubai location because he didn’t want anyone else to have the same one). It’s only the first location in Canada, and there are plans to expand very swiftly into Vancouver and elsewhere, but Yorkville’s Mink Mile seems to be the most appropriate place to start for such a decadent display of luxury.
