Holt Renfrew announces a big redesign of its Yorkdale location for the 2012 holiday season
Sometimes, let’s face it, bigger is better, and in retail, it seems that if a company is as huge as Holt Renfrew, the only direction to move is up (and, well, out). Today Holts announced that its Yorkdale location will be adding 40 per cent more retail space, securing its place as the big dog in the mall’s luxury wing. Forty per cent in hard numbers equates to 70,000 square feet (from 51,000), and the new footage can only mean that the experience will slightly mirror the massive Bloor Street flagship’s brand availability. Thrill-seeking customers will still be able to shop during the renovation process, with or without a hard hat.
Its great there’ll be more room for merchandise but what are they going to do with the customer service? Everytime I go there, its just terrible. High end products should match high end service.
check JERRLIFE.blogspot.com everyone.
I agree the service is terrible. I have ordered stuff in multiple times and never received a call because either it wasn’t ordered or they sold it…
I think that this is wonderful news as it is inconvenient for me to subway to bloor. I have always enjoyed the service at yorkdale and think the team is wonderful. I don’t know why people are so negative. Great news for Yorkdale.
I think it’s odd to hear these comments about the terrible service – for me, I think the place has some of the best people out there and that is why they do so well. I honestly enjoy the experience every time i shop there, how completely opposite is that?
The staff there are simply not strong enough. They may add square footage but they need to address what it is like to try and get help, or what the help brings to the table when shopping. They have no clue how much they could sell if they had professional retail staff instead of students making extra money.
Holts staff at Yorkdale…for me, my sense is that they are not very happy people. Maybe they are understaffed or maybe it is something in the mall air but they never have the energy to make your shopping experience fun and exiting. Feels like they most of them are waiting for their shift to be over. It’s almost like they are helping you to pass the time till they can go home. I agree, too many of them are either students or part timers and it does show. I think the problem is even when they do smile, it is almost insincere and you know that so you don’t really trust them when they do help you. Maybe this is a little harsh but it is hard to put my finger on it. There is something wrong with the shopping experience at Holts Yorkdale.
Where is this extra space coming from? The mall itself expansion?
I totally agree with the comments made about service. Everytime I visit the store and try to get assistance – it’s very poor service. In fact there’s a couple of times my husband and I left the shoe dept in complete disbelief without purchasing anything b/c we waited for someone to attend to us for over 20 min. Since then – we have only shopped at the Holt’s bloor location.
Great on the expansion but I agree customer service is below standard that’s why I only shop at their Bloor Street store. In my opinion, superb customer service.
Selection and service are inferior to Bloor, and 90% of the time it’s full of people who can’t afford anything in the shop and come ‘just to look around’ – which is fine in most cases, I occasionally do the same, but there aren’t enough competent salespeople here to deal with both the lookers and the legitimate customers. Some of this money should go to further hiring/training instead of expansion (though, hopefully, at least there will be a larger mens’ section)
