Toronto’s LG Fashion Week launched its official fall/winter 2011 calendar this week, and for the second season running, it will call Exhibition Place’s Heritage Court its home. Toronto’s biannual late-showing gathering of fashion editors, seat stealers and consumers alike takes place this year from March 28 to April 2. The season’s theme? “Work It.” As Fashion Design Council of Canada president Robin Kay explains in a press release:

The Business of Fashion is the bottom line for every fashion week. From inspiration to distribution, the essential elements of the world beyond the runway are what we must expose our designers to this season. While we will continue to celebrate the ingenuity and creativity of our designers, it is important to note that LG Fashion Week Beauty by L’Oréal Paris serves not only to showcase designer collections, but to operate as a place of business where buying the brand is loud and clear.

Must-see shows will undoubtedly include Holt Renfrew’s opening-night showcase of Canadian fashion, Denis Gagnon’s Tuesday afternoon slot and the ever-popular Joe Fresh and Pink Tartan shows. We’re excited to see if Chloé Comme Parris and Amanda Lew Kee can sidestep the sophomore slump after last season’s successful debuts. Last October, Holt Renfrew mended fences by bringing its showcase into the official fashion week fold, with shows by a post–New York Fashion Week Jeremy Laing, Vancouver’s Wings + Horns and industry mainstays Wayne Clark and Lida Baday (to name a few). We’re looking forward once again to seeing how Holt’s brings its brand of luxury to what is otherwise a waiting area for Marlies games.
