Bill Blair blasts the Toronto Star for its use of “grotesque language”

The Toronto Star, having long chronicled Toronto’s police missteps and scandals, has finally gone too far for Police Chief Bill Blair. In an opinion piece yesterday, lawyer Reid Rusonik used Hannah Arendts term “the banality of evil,” to argue that officers have arbitrarily detained thousands of Toronto residents, targeting black males in particular. Blair immediately fired off an angry letter, calling the use of the term “offensive, completely misguided and appallingly insensitive,” and chiding the paper for allowing “its pages to be soiled by such grotesque language.” So there you have it: Blair can withstand front-page G20 exposés, but a little Arendt will have him fuming.
