Are these the most daring clothes in Toronto?
Ashley Rowe, the young Toronto designer, presented her small spring collection in a dark warehouse last night. The look: fancy Friar Tuck. Rowe’s clothes have featured loose silhouettes and creative dyeing methods before (remember those splatter-paint blazers and dresses?), but this latest crop of designs takes bagginess to the proportions of a monk’s robes and cribs colour from Haight-Ashbury psychedelia—the fabric is tie-dyed. Over at the Globe, Tiyana Grulovic calls Rowe “a straight-up artist,” and while we applaud her daring, we wonder whether Torontonians are bold enough to wear these clothes. I’m all for tie-dye. I’m all for bold fashion. But these are just downright terrible.
They might be a bit more daring if they were tie-dyed burkas.
My kids made better tie-dye outfits last summer.
While I applaud her attempt at trying something new and more conceptual than the average Toronto designer, I have to say that the execution is poor. Stiff fabrics, un-nuanced tie-dye (looks too much like something a child does at summer camp), and odd silhouette choices leaves me wishing she was able to use her sophisticated taste to bring it to a higher level.
Sorry, nice try, but I’ll still look forward to her collection next season.

With this in mind, please give me the oportunity to respond.
I was born in the 50’s which puts me in my fifties right now. I am planning my 2nd wedding to a wonderful man born in the same era. Concidering that we both come from good families, and are getting married, I, have an amazing sense of flare. I find these fashions to be perfect for my wedding next year. Looking at them I feel a sense of class.
I will try to have this designer make my wedding dress with
a flare of nothing I have seen before except in the ’70. I was there and have done this before, buying dye, tying tshirts into a big not and soking it for days and then wearing it. This designer has taken a craft that was a craze ’70, and brought it back in a new millenium. I would be so honoured to have her dress me for my wedding.
Take my ramblings for what it’s worth, but this girl is hot!
