House of the Week: A $6-million modernist mansion in Lawrence Park

Address: 1 Blyth Hill Road Neighbourhood: Lawrence Park Agents: Shane Carslake, Royal LePage Real Estate Services Ltd., Brokerage Price: $6,180,000 Previously sold for: $2,935,000 in 2013

The place

A palatial two-storey with a green roof and a $4-million price jump from four years ago.

The history

Paul Boniferro, a partner at McCarthy Tétrault bought the home in 2013 and spent four years undertaking a careful, contemporary overhaul. Among the changes is a bedroom converted into a walk-in closet and the addition of a wine cellar and a self-irrigating green roof.

The front is now reminiscent of modernist properties in L.A.:

The fireplace makes a dramatic statement just inside the entrance:

The slats leave just enough room for a child to escape from the dinner table into the living room:

The second-storey patio is accessible from the master bedroom and features a hot tub:

Big selling point

Possible deal breaker

This is one of the most expensive properties currently on the market and the $4-million price jump may turn some off.
