House of the Week: $3 million for a Romanesque-revival heritage home in the Annex
ADDRESS: 111 Bedford Road
NEIGHBOURHOOD: Annex
AGENTS: Christian Vermast , Paul Maranger and Fran Bennett, Sotheby’s International Realty
PRICE: $2,995,000
THE PLACE: An expertly restored heritage house in the Romanesque style of iconic Toronto buildings like Old City Hall and Queen’s Park.
BRAGGING RIGHTS : You can’t fault the meticulousness of this renovation. The owners went to great lengths to spotlight the home’s historic features, including three wood-burning fireplaces, leaded-glass windows and a columned portico over the main entrance—with a balcony that cries out for speechmaking.
BIG SELLING POINT: Opulent master suites are very much in vogue, and this specimen boasts a dressing room, a 240-square-foot terrace and a window-facing soaker tub. No wonder it takes up the entire third floor.
POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: Green thumbs may struggle with the lack of yard (but the porch, rear deck and rooftop patio are more than enough outdoor space to host a killer summer party ).

im in love with this house, truly a classic toronto home
Wow.. I love this home… so classic and not overdone. Amazing. I also cant believe that its a single family dwelling and not chopped up into 10 apartments like most homes in the area… Really nice and worth all the $$$.
Really lovely home. Love how they maintained so many of the classic aspects instead of making it completely generic.
Although for a 3 million dollar house, the kitchen is kind of underwhelming.
This is an absolutely beautiful home, love the softness of the colours in every room.
Can’t fault perfection. Nicely done!
So beautiful and really a homey feel, despite its size. Gorgeous. Would have liked even more pics.
It’s so…brown.
This is probably one of the most wonderfully staged homes that has ever been portrayed in this feature. Every room is well appointed and not overdone to the point of gushing with stuff. Truly a classy home for someone with the bucks. Would like to have seen a picture of that master suite terrace but you can’t have everything.
An excellent restoration/renovation.
I thought the kitchen top cabinets for display were a nice touch.
Those are doric columns.
Absolutely beautiful and tastefully done. One of the nicest restored homes I’ve seen in awhile.
Very nice reno, in keeping with the character of the house. My only criticism: some rooms are a little dark (too much brown as someone suggested?).
Actually they are Ionic columns. :)
Beautiful house but I would love to see some of the wood trim painted out, and some window treatments wouldn’t hurt.
this kitchen is soooo very boring. an afterthought or ran out of money perhaps. where is the hood, microwave and back splash? love the neighbourhood. good job keeping true to the character of the home. not sure how long i’d like the green tile around the fireplace though.
gorgeous and warm…
Ummm…where do I put my cars? Street parking at this price? Sick.
Note I am not the real estate agent and I don’t know the builder or the designer, but I think they have done a great job restoring this 100 years old house and bring it back to its glory. Things like the darker room colours, the painted shaker kitchen cabinets are totally in synn with the period design. I see some comments about missing back splash but back in the days, kitchens didn’t have back splash. If you take a closer look, you will see the microwave right next to the fridge. And if you trace the light souce that illuminated the ranch, you will know there is a build-in hood hide behind the upper cabinet. In terms of parking, a quick look up at the realtor.ca will tell you there are 2 parking spaces at the rear laneway.
I love the curb appeal and that bathtub. Its kind of depressing however that for that price you cant get a detached home. Irregardless it is a stunner.
I second Urbane’s comments… “it’s so… brown”.
