ADDRESS: 500 Wellington Street West, Penthouse 1001
NEIGHBOURHOOD: Waterfront Communities-The Island
AGENTS: Arif Manji and Eric Kuzuian, Private Service Realty
PRICE: $7,500,000
THE PLACE: The entire top floor of Five Hundred Wellington West. The building is easily one of the most exclusive in the city; there are fewer than 20 units in total and many of them—including this penthouse—span entire floors.
BRAGGING RIGHTS: It’s the developer’s own. Peter Freed, the “man who made King West,” and the force behind this building (as well as the Thompson Hotel and Residences and other high-profile builds) bought this unit for himself, though he never ended up moving in.
BIG SELLING POINT: Like the Thompson, this condo has a great pool overlooking the city—the massive, south-facing terrace is tricked out with both a raised, infinity glass pool and a hot tub. And, unlike the Thompson, you won’t have to share them with anyone.
POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: You had better be able to cook under pressure—with an open, restaurant-style kitchen, dinner guests will be watching your every move.

Yawn. This will be on the market for a long, long time. Can you say “Price Drop”?
Madness!!! Is freed crazy? Showcasing his personal penthouse just show all his purchasers how he rips them off at $650-800 per sq ft. Boring space, ou think this dude would have an amazing place out of this world ?WTF.
Asking 7.5 and couldn’t be bothered to spend a bit on staging? I think this is one that would really, really benefit from showing furnished. It’s just hard to see how you’d use the space.
(Am I the only one who finds infinity pools really disconcerting? They just make my brain go WRONG WRONG WRONG)
This place does nothing for me and I agree it will a) sit for a long time and b) have to be reduced in price. The vast empty living area looks like an office building in need of the cubicles. The cylindrical cement columns remind me of the ones in the TTC bus depots. The terrace is lovely but no privacy at all for the pool. And the above poster is correct, for 7.5M, this place should be staged to the nines.
You guys are haters!))) The place looks amazing! This is a very rare find in Toronto. I wish, we would have more interesting properties like this.
“It’s the developer’s own. Peter Freed…bought this unit for himself, though he never ended up moving in.”
In other words, the developer couldn’t sell the unit at any stage — when it was a piece of paper (pre-construction), during construction, at occupancy, once the building registered.
Sheri, you are right and cause he is just a greedy person who is overblown along King West and way overprice on his units for over $700 per sq feet for a box but he built himself a castle ( bad one) in the sky.
Just dont walk in shoes on those floors
Place needs rugs, and an enemaaaaaaaaaaaaa;)
Love it.If you got the cash, can not think of a better downtown spot to live.Staging, smaging. Use your imagination.
Freed rhymes with both need and greed but has a great deal to do with one of them. One might not need an open kitchen in order to watch the “help” cook. (Surely, at that price, one could afford staff). That space would had Mr. Freed not applied and received an amendment to the height bylaw for the area. “How can this happen?”one wonders. He is doing the very same thing at his new development on the south side of King just east of Bathurst. Is there something of which we are not aware or does money truly talk and nobody walks?
I agree with cathie – it looks like an office. Also – while it doesn’t show up as well here – if you run the multimedia clip from the the MLS listing, I’m pretty sure that’s Satan staring down from above the fireplace…
Yikes!
I can’t see living there, it looks like a great place to party on the weekend though. That’s the only thing that I can see….partying at this place. Add some furniture, hippy art and a bar.
