Condomonium: $1 million for a spacious, Art Deco–inspired penthouse in the Madison Avenue Lofts
ADDRESS: 380 Macpherson Avenue, Penthouse 614
NEIGHBOURHOOD: Casa Loma
AGENT: Robert Greenberg and Andre Kutyan, Harvey Kalles Real Estate Ltd.
PRICE: $1,069,000
THE PLACE: A penthouse in the Madison Avenue Lofts, a six-storey structure that combines elements of industrial and Art Deco design. BRAGGING RIGHTS: Originally a two-bedroom suite, it has living to space to spare, including a super-sized dining room that could fit a table worthy of Hogwarts’ Great Hall.
BIG SELLING POINT: Henry Liska of Meritor Design lent his elegant and unique aesthetic to the unit: note the hand-painted wallpaper, the tiled drop ceiling in the living room and the French doors leading to the study.
POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: To feel right in a home this formal, you’ll have to wear a jacket and tie just to eat your morning cereal.

Over a million dollars and not even a small guest bedroom – THAT is the real deal-breaker with this property.
This building is a regular on my 10LoftsInADay tours. There are quite a few this size in various parts of downtown. Many still have the rough edges that loft owners love.
The second bedroom was converted to the dining room when the current owner bought it from the developer. This gives the unit a spectacular entertaining space. However, if someone needs the second room, it can easily be converted back to it’s original state.
does this come furnished?
Come on Zedawung, would you really want those dark and depressing furniture ? The layout is nice and grand.. but its way too dark… needs lighter colors and some staging. Watched SELLING NEW YORK lately? You can learn wonders from those realtors.
Cee, why don’y you have a look at the images on my website? The beachside residences in Bermuda and elsewhere are hardly dark and depressing. Every project is put together to suit the individual client – and his or her needs.
Cee has a point to a certain extent and I hear Henry’s comment..but myself being in the customer service area, many times customers dont know what they want and its our job to show them whats best. The furniture is great, but I think it suited for a huge big house, not a condo.
This looks great, but I can’t help but think without this beautiful furnishing and decorating, it’s just a million dollar one-bedroom box. This level of decorating could elevate anything (regardless of whether it’s one’s particular taste or not).
And I guess I’m just not in the group that ‘gets’ loft spaces. A million bucks for painted concrete, exposed duct work and water pipes? Really? Canopies and drop ceilings clean it up, but for that money I shouldn’t have to clean it up.
To each their own. I’d rather a place that is ‘finished’.
The dark tones and heavy, old-fashioned furniture make the space look claustrophobic. The office is really messy too–could they not tidy up the bookshelves before listing?!
I actually really like it.
Definitely the furnishings make this place look really warm and appealing – has a house feel rather than a condo loft feel. Love the dark rich drama…sure beats all the same crap that designers like sarah richardson keep pumping out….with the baby blues and lime greens and tangerine oranges; brain dead idea’s that keep repeating over and over.
Too bad about about just 1 bedroom – and perhaps more so, for some people, that it looks over the railroad….
I do not see a lot of Art Deco here, this article should have been named something different!
Digging this place. It looks like someone actually lives there (“…the office is really messy”) instead of the sterile “no touching, no farting allowed/aloud” look.
Love it, please leave the furniture when you move out, I would be very happy with all of it.
