Condo of the Week: $650,000 for a Wallace-Emerson loft with plenty of office space
Address: 692 St. Clarens Ave. , Unit 7
Neighbourhood: Wallace-Emerson
Agent: Liz Bak Durocher, Royal LePage York North Realty, Brokerage
Price: $649,900
The Place: This three-storey live-work loft has an office and living room on the ground floor, a big dining room and kitchen on the second floor and a bedroom with an en suite bathroom up top.
The History: The building was once a factory for Gray Manufacturing and Machine, an industrial tool company founded in 1912. (The firm got its big break a few years later, when it started recycling brass howitzer shells used on the front lines of the First World War.) The building eventually became a cabinet factory and, in 1988, was converted into 11 condos. Unit 7 has had a few owners, most recently a photographer who added a luxurious new kitchen.
Big Selling Point: This building’s lofts were designed with work-from-home types in mind. In fact, the office just past the unit’s front entrance is one of the reasons the current owner chose to buy.
Possible Deal Breaker: The master bedroom lacks a door and the second-floor dining area is partially open to the living room below, so privacy is difficult to come by. Then again, there is one little hideaway: a terrace with high walls.
By The Numbers:
• $649,000
• 1,464 square feet
• 167-square-foot terrace
• 13-foot ceilings in the dining room
• 2 bathrooms
• 1 bedroom
• 1 office
• 1 Juliet balcony
• 1 parking space

320275 Also on the main floor: this living room. The ceilings are ten feet high, and they've got exposed beams. https://torontolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-3-150x150.jpg https://torontolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-3.jpg https://torontolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-3.jpg 1200 800 [] https://torontolife.com/real-estate/condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue/slide/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-3/ toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-3 0 0
320276 The kitchen and dining room are on the second floor. Transparent furniture is bad at hiding fingerprints, but it's great at showing off wood floors. https://torontolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-4-150x150.jpg https://torontolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-4.jpg https://torontolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-4.jpg 1200 800 [] https://torontolife.com/real-estate/condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue/slide/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-4/ toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-4 0 0
320277 The seller had the kitchen completely revamped. It has an eight-foot, glass-topped centre island and stainless steel appliances. Beyond those double doors is a Juliet balcony. https://torontolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-5-150x150.jpg https://torontolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-5.jpg https://torontolife.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-5.jpg 1200 800 [] https://torontolife.com/real-estate/condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue/slide/toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-5/ toronto-condo-of-the-week-692-st-clarens-avenue-5 0 0
