The newest Anglophilic venture from the owners of the Oxley and Queen and Beaver pubs, with more leather tub chairs and couches than dining tables, is a comfy one. The menu matches the decor, with strapping (frequently changing) plates of Sunday roast–worthy pub grub. Slow-cooked ox tongue in a rich beet glaze assumes the buttery consistency of fall-apart beef cheeks, and a sharp cheese fondue sweetened with apple cider should be served by the tub but deserves sturdier bread than the delicate slices of sourdough. The cocktails are more reliable, if straightforward. The Hurricane Carter with aged Havana Club and house-made coriander syrup is a sturdy winter warmer.
