Live jazz, a lime sorbet palate cleanser and a complimentary post-meal cheese plate are all part of the posh pageantry at this 20-year-old, 160-seat Thornhill establishment, where the wine list boasts several bottles over $1,000 and Rolexes are on full display. The continental-focused kitchen has a lot to offer in the way of steak and seafood: along with the usual assortment of sauces, house-made habanero vodka gives a devilish kick to fresh Raspberry Point oysters, and a six-week dry-aged Angus steak cooked rare tastes like parmesan in the best possible way. Seafood spaghettini is like Italian Christmas Eve on a plate; the simple pasta is tossed in oil, and topped with lobster tail, crab leg, massive scallops, prawns and mussels. Appetizers aren’t as good: the caesar salad needs more garlic punch, and shrimp tacos are an overpriced, unnecessary nod to downtown trends.
