High, polished-tin ceilings and two rows of art deco schoolhouse lights keep this large bistro cozy. A seasonal salad of tomatoes, green beans and slim slices of parmesan tuile is simply touched with good olive oil and sprinkled with local bacon bits. Rocky Shore oysters from P.E.I., served with mignonette, house-made seafood sauce and horseradish, which provide a good foil for the intense brininess. Macaroni and cheese brings al dente garganelli that’s generously topped with sweet chunks of lobster, a scattering of green peas and more of those bacon bits. A daily special of elk strip loin sees two generous slices cooked just below medium-rare: it’s juicy and tender with just a hint of gaminess and sided by creamy fingerling mash and earthy baby candy cane beets. Rich and fluffy coconut cream pie has a crumbly graham cracker crust and is drizzled with wonderful, only slightly boozy rum caramel.
