This Brick Works spot makes a good first impression with its exposed wood beams and industrial light fixtures, not to mention an impressive view of the Don Valley. And, for the most part, the kitchen gracefully complements the scenery with sophisticated, well-executed plates. The fish cakes make for an excellent appetizer: two golden discs stuffed with flakes of smoked speckled trout, buttery potato, a hint of horseradish and a sprinkle of hot mustard seeds. But on a recent visit, the much-hyped rabbit pappardelle initially arrived as a vegetarian linguine, and when the promised dish was finally served—with meat hastily piled on, but still no pappardelle—it was oily and under-seasoned.
