There’s more good news for Toronto’s craft beer fans: Luc “Bim” Lafontaine, the former head brewer of Montreal’s famed Dieu du Ciel! microbrewery, has announced that he’s opening a brewpub on Toronto’s east side. Located at 242 Coxwell Avenue, the 6000-square-foot space will feature a 20-hectolitre brewery (so, roughly the same size and output as Leslieville’s Left Field), a 140-seat pub complemented by what he calls an “unpretentious kitchen” and a retail store that will sell beer to-go. Lafontaine started working at Dieu du Ciel! in 2001 and eventually became their head brewer in 2007. He’s been brewing beer for 23 years and has just recently returned to Canada after helping launch Japan’s Kyoto Brewing Co. Lafontaine says that the yet-to-be-named brewpub will open for business sometime before the end of 2016.
