Prince Rama in the Wilderness In this dance show based on the Ramayana, one of the great Indian epics, Prince Rama and his wife, Sita, have been sent into exile by Rama’s stepmother, who wishes for her own son to be king. Sitayana The Menaka Thakkar Dance Company has been introducing audiences to classical Indian dance since 1978, even while encouraging the blending of traditional and contemporary styles. Its new work comes straight from the Ramayana, but it adds a feminist twist by telling the story from the point of view of Prince Rama’s wife, Sita, who has been sent into exile with her husband.
