Introducing: Sagra, a new trattoria in the Junction

Introducing: Sagra

Name: Sagra
Neighbourhood: The Junction
Contact Info: 240 Annette St., 416-767-7200, www.sagra.ca, @Sagra_TO
Owners: Roberto and Sandra Mandarino, who also own The Slow Room on College
Chef: Sivithar Sitsoruban

The Food: The menu consists of simple Italian dishes, like roasted bone marrow with crostini and octopus carpaccio. Neapolitan pies are topped with things like homemade fennel sausage and fior de latte, then flash-baked in a traditional wood-fired oven.

The Place: Cozy and casual, like a well-appointed Italian kitchen. The colourful retro-style posters were designed by a company called Lion vs. Tiger to look like old-world ads for Italian festivals.

The Numbers:
• 900º is the max temperature for the wood-fired oven
• 40 seats, including 8 stools at the bar
• 10 people can dine in the private alcove between the kitchen and the main room
• 8 months to renovate the space
