Soho House to launch permanent Toronto home just in time for TIFF
Turns out Nick Jones, founder and CEO of the chain of members-only luxury clubs Soho House, is so in love with Toronto that the new Soho House Toronto will be up and running this year—and not in 2014 as previously rumoured. The new digs are part of the club’s vision for world domination: Soho House plans on setting up in Mumbai, Chicago, Istanbul and Barcelona by the end of 2014. Jones explained the interest in the city thusly: “Underestimate the creative spirit and momentum of Toronto at your peril—as an international centre for the arts, it’s a must for a Soho House.”
Over the last three years, Soho House has popped up in town for TIFF, and has thrown some ridiculously star-studded parties. The permanent location for the club will now be at 192 Adelaide St. W. in the Bishop’s Block building, which dates back to the 19th century as one of Toronto’s first hotels. Soho House Toronto will be right next to the new Shangri-La Hotel, so that members can access the hotel’s screening room, fitness centre, pool, spa, meeting rooms, ballrooms and valet parking too. Also right next door to Shangri-La, of course, is Momofuku’s first Toronto outpost(s), which should be opening up this August. It may be months away, but it looks like there’ll be a new ground zero for celeb gawking at TIFF 2012.
Received my membership card today. See you all in the valet line!
That’s interesting considering SohoHouse Toronto membership cards have not been issued yet…
How does someone get a membership
Hes, don’t be ridiculous I already have four. Can’t wait to get oiled up by the pool!
They had a job fair. VERY good peeps there. TOO bad they didn’t hire the GOOD one’s
Clearly someone is very bitter that they did not get hired. By your unkind comment it seems to me they made a good choice not to hire you!!!!!
